1. Who we are

MyPetsStories (mypetsstories.com) is created and operated by Cristian Istrate, an individual based in Romania. For any question about your data or these terms, contact: [email protected].

2. What this service does

MyPetsStories lets you claim a spot on a world map for €9.49/year, upload photos of your pet, and share their story — whether they're a living companion or one you're remembering. Other visitors can browse the map, view public pet stories, and leave likes.

3. Information we collect

Account information: your email address and password (managed securely via our authentication provider, Supabase).

Pet content you submit: pet name, species, photos, story text, and the map location you choose for your spot.

Payment information: when you purchase a spot, payment is processed directly by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details — Stripe handles this in compliance with PCI-DSS standards. We retain only your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference.

Usage data: if you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, general location by region, device type). If you arrive from one of our adverts, we also use Google Ads conversion measurement, which records that a purchase followed from an advert click — this is what tells us which campaigns are worth paying for. Both are only active if you consent — see Section 6.

Transactional emails: sent via Resend, for account confirmation, password resets, and email changes.

Basic technical data: the map is displayed using MapLibre and map tiles from CARTO; loading these may involve your IP address being visible to that third-party service, standard for any map embed.

4. Why we process your data (legal basis)

To provide the service you've requested (claiming a spot, displaying your pet's story) — contractual necessity.

To process payments — contractual necessity.

To send you account-related emails (confirmations, password resets) — contractual necessity / legitimate interest.

To understand site usage via analytics, and to measure which adverts lead to purchases — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

5. Sharing your data

We do not sell your data. We share data only with the service providers necessary to run MyPetsStories: Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Cloudflare (hosting), and Google (Analytics, and Ads conversion measurement, only with your consent). Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy terms and applicable data protection agreements.

6. Cookies and analytics

We use:

Essential storage (required for the site to function): your login session. This doesn't require consent under GDPR since it's necessary for the service to work.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): only loaded if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner. You can decline, and the site will function identically without them. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's site data and reloading.

Ad measurement cookies (Google Ads): also only set if you click "Accept". These let us see that a purchase came from one of our adverts, rather than only that somebody visited. They are not used to build advertising profiles or to target you elsewhere — we do not run remarketing. Declining them has no effect on the site or on your account.

7. Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
Export your data in a portable format
Object to or restrict certain processing
Withdraw consent for analytics and ad measurement at any time
Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

8. Data retention

We retain your account and pet content for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your spot and content may be removed or made inactive; you can request full deletion at any time by contacting us.

9. Children

MyPetsStories is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.

10. Using the service

By using MyPetsStories, you agree to these terms. You must provide accurate information when creating an account and claiming a spot.

11. Your content

You retain ownership of the photos and stories you upload. By posting them, you grant MyPetsStories a license to display them publicly on the map as part of the service. You confirm you have the right to share any photos you upload (e.g. they're your own).

12. Prohibited content

You may not upload content that is illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights. We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate this.

13. Payments and subscriptions

Spots are €9.49/year, billed via Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your dashboard.

14. No warranty / limitation of liability

MyPetsStories is provided "as is." We do our best to keep the service running reliably but don't guarantee uninterrupted availability. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update this policy or these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Romania and applicable EU regulations, including GDPR.
